Pylon Petition handed to DECC. Somerset protest groups have met with Charles Hendry MP (Minsiter of State) and handed in our petition which suggests that new transmission methods are used to underground new pylon routes. Full story here. _

National Grid have finally announced, on Thursday the 29th September 2011, that their preferred route across the Somerset Levels is via Route 1 (a). Click HERE for the announcement.

We feel this is a pointless announcement at this stage and will further embarrass National Grid due to the simple fact that they have still not produced independently verifiable costings for alternative transmission methods. We have stated on numerous occasions that we agree that the electricity network needs upgrading and we have advised that we will work with National Grid to assist along the route if they can prove that overhead lines are the most energy efficient and cost effective method, over a 40 year life span (agreed average age of transmission infrastructure). To date this has still not been supplied and it would appear that National Grid are still advising our Ministers, MP's and the country as a whole that overhead line technology is the only option... we dont believe that this is the case and believe it can be proved. We feel this fact is being ignored and simply manoeuvred around for the convenience of some body/organisation?...
